AUTHORS

VLAD NANCĂ

Vlad Nancă studied at the National University of Arts, Bucharest, Department of Photography and Moving Image. In his early works, Vlad Nancă uses political and cultural symbols to explore nostalgia and the changes in society, set against the backdrop of Romania and Eastern Europe’s recent history and the rise of aggressive capitalism in the early 2000s. In his recent work, Nancă explores space in various forms, from public space and architecture to outer space, consistently utilising archival material and references from art and architectural history to create unique subject matter materialising in sculptures and installations.

MUROMURO STUDIO
(Ioana Chifu, Onar Stănescu)

Muromuro Studio is an architecture and design practice founded by Ioana Chifu and Onar Stănescu, spanning a wide range of typologies, including public spaces, private residences, retail stores and object design. In 2022, they expanded their activity with the opening of Grotto Gallery, a contemporary art and design gallery. This initiative allowed them to focus on exhibition design and curatorial work, further exploring the intersection between art and design. In addition to their architectural practice, Muromuro Studio is deeply engaged in furniture design, creating pieces that experiment with bold geometric forms, raw materials, and refined details, balancing functionality with artistic expression.

COSMINA GOAGEA

Cosmina Goagea is an architect, curator and researcher within the doctoral programme at Escola Tècnica Superior d’Arquitectura de Barcelona, Universitat Politechnica de Catalunya – UPC. Starting in 2000, her research and curatorial practice is focused on museum exhibition, art as urban practice, place-making through cultural interventions, bottom-up city transformation, regenerative architecture, culture-led policy making, contemporary art. Artistic director of Zeppelin – platform of communication and action. She received distinctions including the DASA Award from the European Museum Academy (2021), BigSEE Design Award (2019 and 2022), and was shortlisted for the European Prize for Public Space (2011) and for the EU Mies van der Rohe Award (2024).

ATTILA KIM

Attila Kim, Romania’s Commissioner at the Venice Biennale since 2016, is an architect with extensive experience in exhibition and cultural event design, restoration, and architectural projects. He has been nominated three times for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – the Mies van der Rohe Award (2009, 2011, and 2017) – and has won numerous national awards at the Bucharest Architecture Biennale, the Bucharest Annual of Architecture, the Transylvania Architecture Biennale, and the Arhitext Awards (with 28 awards and 16 nominations). In 2016, Attila KIM received the Arts and Society Leadership Award from the Aspen Institute for his contribution to Romanian culture, his efforts in promoting Romania internationally, and his support for the development of cultural heritage. In 2018, the International Advertising Association nominated him for the Excellence Award for promoting Romania as a Global Creative Hub.

Project coordinator

CORINA BUCEA

Corina Bucea is a cultural manager with experience in project coordination, artistic production, cultural policies, and cultural mediation. She is the cultural development director at Cluj Cultural Centre, where she coordinates, since 2018, The Academy of Change, a programme dedicated to increasing the capacity of the cultural sector. She was one of the founding members of the contemporary art space The Paintbrush Factory (2009), where she worked as a manager in the first years of activity. She coordinated or collaborated with various projects representing Romania at the Venice Art and Architecture Biennale (2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2022). Between 2021 and 2023, she was part of the Timișoara 2023 – European Capital of Culture’s curatorial team as an education and mediation & Power Station strategy expert.

ANA CIOBANU

Ana Ciobanu, a film producer and event creator, holds a decade of experience in the film industry, is a co-founder of Arrogant Films—a production company positioned as a nexus between disciplines, connecting imagination and production, strategy and narrative. Arrogant Films’ work extends beyond traditional film, encompassing performative art events and immersive experiences that engage audiences in innovative ways. In addition to film, Ana specialises in creating custom events designed from concept through to full implementation, including product launches that integrate strategic design with artistic elements. Her approach emphasises cross-disciplinary collaboration, merging cinematic and performative arts to engage diverse audiences within contemporary cultural contexts.

SUZANA VASILESCU

Suzana Vasilescu is a Romanian art historian, curator, gallerist and art advisor. She is the Founder  of SUPRAINFINIT, a contemporary art gallery in Bucharest, and is the curator and art advisor for important private art collections in Eastern Europe and Middle East. She is also a member of the board and the acquisition committee of the Museum of Recent Art. Prior to launching her own gallery (in 2015) and Ans Azura (2021), she  led the department of Post-modern and Contemporary Art and organized the first post-modern and contemporary art auction in the country at Artmark Auction House (2009 – 2012). In 2015, she was the director of the first edition of ‘Art Encounters Biennale’ and between 2012 and 2015, the Director of the contemporary art gallery, Nicodim Gallery. In 2023 she co-founded together with other 8 gallerists RAD Art Fair – The first Romanian contemporary art fair.
